Katie Bohnenkamp

Katie Bohnenkamp, age 89, of Cogswell, ND, passed away February 27, 2013, at Four Seasons Health Care Center, Forman, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Katie was born August 22, 1923 at Strasburg, North Dakota to John and Tillie (Ottilia Hoffart) Schreiner. She grew up and attended school in the Strasburg area until age 15, when she moved with her family to Cogswell. Katie was working as a hired girl for area families when she met her future husband, Floyd “Fritz” Bohnenkamp while he was working for the same family. They were married on September 15, 1941 at Cogswell, North Dakota. They made their home near Cogswell, where they farmed and raised livestock until 1948, when they moved to Ashland, Oregon. In 1956, they returned to Cogswell and bought a farm. Fritz passed away July 28, 2005. Katie continued to live on the farm until July of 2009, when she became a resident of the Four Seasons Health Care Center, Forman, ND. Katie was a very hard worker. She always had big gardens, and enjoyed canning and sharing her harvest with friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed raising her chickens each year. Katie loved her home, and looked forward to each time her grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come to visit her on the farm.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Bohnenkamp and best friend, Mary Anders of Cogswell and Jim (Barb) Bohnenkamp, Gwinner, ND; a daughter, Linda (Arlan) Albro, Cogswell; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by seven brothers, John Schreiner, Lisbon, ND, Alfred Schreiner and Jim Schreiner, both of Cogswell, Alphonse Schreiner, Forman, ND, Leo (Phyllis) Schreiner and Charles (Pam) Schreiner, all of Fargo, ND, and Anton (Pam) Schreiner of Florida; a sister-in-law, Nettie Schreiner, Fargo; and many nieces and nephews. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fritz, three brothers, Elmer, Eugene, and Ben, and two sisters, Annie and Theresa.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Forman, ND. Her funeral mass will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery near Cogswell.
